Blaina turned up with 14 men and no front row so the game started with passive scrums. Blaina experienced a number of injuries before this game and must be admired for turning up as a lot of sides would have called the game off.
They brought this spirit onto the pitch but the Stars started the game well and pack leader Browny finished off a well worked move to score the first try in the first 5 minutes. This try was converted. The Stars then thought that this would be a stroll in the park but Blaina showed a lot of commitment and held the Stars and in fact had most of the territory in the first half but failed to convert this into points. On about 20 minutes a player from Blaina who turned up late joined the game to make their numbers up to 15.
This was a poor game with loads of handling errors and the ref also prevented the game from flowing; he gave a number of penalties to Blaina in the tackle area without any sort of warning or communication and he did seem to sympathise with Blainas problems and gave them most of the 50:50 decisions.
Stars scored another try 20 minutes into the second half scored deservedly by Adam Perry [Pez] in the corner. Pez was awarded the man of the match for his all round commitment. Captain Simon Hughes also had a gutsy game and led the team well and number 8 Mike Preece made a number of big tackles.
The final score 12 points to nil.
The Stars need to make big improvements if they are to get anything out of the game away to Caerleon next saturday who are currently unbeaten and top of division 3A East.
