Stars traveled to Chepstow with confidence after a good away win at Monmouth followed by a narrow defeat at home against Llanhilleth.
Chepstow won the toss and decided to play down the slope and scored an early unconverted try to lead 5 nil. The game then become very tight and due to good defence from both teams no further points were scored until the last 5 minutes of the half when Chris Brown made a strong run on Chepstows 10 meter line and some how managed to off load to the Stars prop Brad Jones who run 20 meters to score unopposed. Brad Jones worked hard to support Chris Brown. Just before half time Chepstow scored a penalty to make the score 8-5 at half time.
At the start of the second half the Stars were on the front foot as they had the advantage of the slope however Chepstow scored a number of tries from some basic errors made by the Stars. The young Stars players did not give up however and captain Simon Hughes scored a well worked converted try to make the final score 40 points to 12 to Chepstow.
Although Chepstow were the better team on the day, as already mentioned, a number of their tries game from some basic Stars errors and the score did not reflect the effort put in by the Stars players however this effort must be maintained for the full 80 minutes.
The two Stars half backs Mark Birkby and Adam Perry defended bravely as did number 8 Matthew Dix however the young prop Brad Jones was awarded man of the match for his all round play in the loose and the scrum.
Stars are home next week against Crumlin in the SWALEC Bowl Cup and are expecting a tough encounter against their local rivals who beat them when they last played last season.
