A game on the Saturday after black friday is always a very delicate affair as a number of players attended their work xmas 'doos' the night before and not really fit to play rugby the day later. This was also compounded with the fact that a very popular player Chris Brown was getting married on the same day as the game and the Stars were without a number of players who had been invited to the wedding.
The players who turned up for the Stars must therefore be congratulated for their attitude and commitment. The Stars started the game with a flurry and it wasnt evident that a number of the players were nursing hang overs. The forwards won quality ball and the backs contolled by outside half Nathan Hughes played flowing rugby. 2 tries were scored by Nathan 1 by number eight Marc Williams, 1 by Brad Jones and 1 penalty try. Nathan Hughes converted all five tries and the score at half time was 35-5.
It looked as if the Stars were going to win by a cricket score but I think the Stars players suffered from a delayed hang over together with the fact that Rhymney did not give up. The Stars failed to score in the second half and allowed Rhymney to score a further try. The score ended 35-12. The Stars were very satisfied with the bonus point win which lifted them to eighth in the league.
A number of players played extremely well tight prop Harris Jones continues to improve in this position, the attitude of captain Simon Hughes was immense and both outside half Nathan Hughes and number 8 Marc Williams had otstanding games with Marc edging it for the man of the match award.
