Stars welcomed Abercarn at Libanus expecting a difficult game against their local foes. Abercarn didn't disappoint and arrived with a very strong squad. The Stars started really well and took the lead in the first 10 minutes with a penalty nicely converted by young outside half Dan Evans. The Stars continued to press Abercarn down the slope and was awarded another penalty which was kicked to the corner. The Stars won the resulting line out and moved the ball along the line but unfortunately the Abercarn inside centre, who looked little offside, intercepted and run the full length of the pitch to score under the posts.
In the next 10 minutes Abercarn scored a further 2 tries from Stars mistakes. The Stars then rallied and scored a try by Dan Evans which he also converted. In the second half Abercarn took control of the game but in fairness the Stars did not give up and Martin Gower scored a fantastic try which was again converted by Dan Evans. The ref also disallowed a Stars try by Chris Kelly in the corner, however if there was try line technology in place it would have shown that it was in fact a definite try,
The final score did not reflect the game. Abercarn were definitely the better side but not by the margin of the score line; a true reflection would have been a 20 point difference and not 40. Abercarn were a very disciplined side and the Stars wishes them all the best for the rest of the season.
Dan Evans, Martin Gower, Aled Hughes and Josh Thomas, in his first game at centre, had strong performances and Martin Gower was awarded player of the match.
A lot of work needs to be done in training next week in readiness for the game against RTB so can everybody please make an effort to attend training next week
