Stars kicked off their league campaign at home against New Tredegar. This is the 3^rd season Stars have been in league 3A and are optimistic of ending the season towards the top.

The weather conditions were atrocious and both sides must be praised for trying to play rugby in such wet conditions. The Stars won the toss and played up the slope in the first half. It quickly became evident that the Stars was going to have the dominant pack. The first half ended with Stars leading 15-3.

In the second half the Stars continued to put huge pressure on the New Tredegar pack and scored a further 3 tries ending the game victors 36-3. The Stars pack were dominant in all facets of play. In fairness New Tredegar didn’t give up and their half backs tried to create things but had poor ball from a retreating pack and the wet weather did not help their cause.  

The Stars used the conditions very well and were extremely solid in defence. The tries were scored by forwards Matthew Davies, Captain Ross Martin, Nathan Richards, Brad Jones and centre Tom Haddock on his debut for the Stars. Nathan Hughes kicked 4 conversations and one penalty

Any of the forwards could have been named man of the match. After much deliberation it was decided to give it to tight head prop Harris Jones for his work in the scrums and tackle area.

This was a very pleasing first competitive game of the season for the stars coming away with a bonus point and 2^nd in the league. Next week the Stars are away to Caerphilly; this will be a big step against the fallen giants of Welsh rugby and looking to get back to where they once was. The Stars however are very optimistic of springing a surprise result.
